A Danish convert of 1859, held after the siege, who led the Morrisites at Council Bluffs and broke with the prophet Cainan.

Soren Peter Guhl (1821–1883), born in Jutland, Denmark, who came to Utah in the Robert F. Neslen Company of 1859 (Church History Biographical Database; FamilySearch KWJ8-9RQ). Held to bail after the siege as “S. P. Guhl” (Deseret News, June 25, 1862). Leader of the Council Bluffs group; sustained as Cainan’s first counselor on January 24, 1869, and sent on a mission to Denmark, where he broke with Cainan (Anderson, pp. 193–94); Cainan had written ahead to Deer Lodge to receive him on his way to Scandinavia (Anderson, p. 187), and later named him among the “traitors” (Anderson, p. 204). He died at Council Bluffs, Iowa, in 1883.
